GENERAL EMPLOYMENT OF SUBSTITUTES
The Board will employ substitute teachers as deemed appropriate by the administration and in accordance with State Board policies. A substitute teacher is an at-will employee who takes the place of a teacher who is temporarily absent. Substitute teachers are assigned the same responsibilities and authorities by state law as are regular teachers.
Anyone wishing to serve as a substitute teacher must complete the online training course.

If a first time user, click on "Create New Account". If a returning user, enter user name and password.
Complete required registration. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please email email@example.com for assistance.
Continue with the Substitute Teacher Training Course. (Read Important Message at beginning.)
Complete each section of the course.
When finished, email firstname.lastname@example.org to request the Certificate of Completion.
Bring the certificate to the Cool Springs Administrative Office at 382 West Main Steet, Forest City, NC, to pick up your Substitute Application Packet.
After submitting all required documents in the packet, your name will be presented to the Rutherford County Board of Education for approval at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
Substitutes must also provide evidence of competency including at least one of the following:
1. A teaching certificate.
2. Successful completion of at least 48 semester hours of college coursework.
3. A high school diploma and a written recommendation by the principal for employment only in that school.
A criminal history check will be conducted on applicants for substitute teaching positions in accordance with Board Policy 7100, Recruitment and Selection of Personnel, and administrative procedures.
