Additional Information:
- Teachers who complete National Board Certification will earn 8 CEU credits. Teachers who complete the 10 year renewal cycle will earn 2 CEU credits.
- Please send all CEU documentation to Hayley Cobb, Licensure Specialist ([email protected]) or Dr. Tammie Ash, Executive Director of Human Resources ([email protected]).
- A unit of renewal credit is equivalent to one quarter hour or one in-service credit from a North Carolina public school system. A unit reflects ten contact hours.
- One semester hour is equivalent to 1.5 units of credit.
- For a professional educator’s license to remain current all credit must be earned by the expiration date of the existing professional educator’s license.
- 8 units of renewal credit are required to renew both a current and expired CPL.
- As a condition of employment per NC State Board of Education Policy LICN-005 employing school systems reserve the right to assign literacy requirements for any educator.
- Renewal requirements are subject to change based on NC State Board of Education policy updates.
North Carolina Retired Teachers
A Lifetime License is issued to a teacher who holds a current license after 30 or more years of classroom teaching as a licensed teacher in North Carolina PreK-12 public schools. Renewal of the Lifetime License is not required (per SL 2019 -71).
